Plane Facts - Miniture Woodworking Pencil Sharpener
This little woodworking plane is from the late 19th century and it was among the very first incentive merchandise gifts. It is in fact a pencil sharpener and one would simply plane the pencil in the same manner a carpenter might plane a piece of wood. It is approximately 3 inches long, one inch high and about .5 inches wide. On one side it is marked "PLANE FACTS" and "It pays to buy Artists, Draughtsman's Engineers & Surveyors supplies from us." The other side features an antlered elk head (trademark) and "HIRSHBERG ART CO of Baltimore, MD".
