A Historic 1850s Farmhouse on a Scenic Vermont Dairy Farm

Folk Art Rooster Trade Sign item# 11FA270

We originally thought this folk art rooster to have been all that was left of a 19th century weathervane but after more scrutiny and some suggestions by fellow antique dealers, we now feel it was probably a 19th century trade sign for a poultry store or chicken farm. The biggest clue is that it appears only one side was ever painted. It was originally found in a small town in western Pennsylvania and was most likely made there by a local blacksmith. It still displays most of its original paint (on one side only) and a nice rusty tarnished patina. The rooster and stand is about 24.5 inches high while the rooster itself is 13 inches high and about 11 inches wide.
