Step Down Windsor Rocking Chair

more pictures

We recently found this little step down Windsor in a barn in Whiting, Vermont. It has a solid plank seat and bamboo turned legs & stretchers. It is rod backed and includes the classical step down head rest. It has a steel reinforcement on each side of the top head rest which were probably added sometime during the 19th century. It is smallish and might have been a youth chair or a Windsor Slipper. A slipper chair was smaller and close to the ground and was used by the lady of house when she "slipped" on her shoes and socks. This little rocker shows just the right amount of wear for a 200 year old Windsor chair.
