In 1883 two Swedish craftsman, Gustaf Holmberg and Lars Erickson, started the first bedroom furniture manufacturer in Jamestown, New York. Some time later, there were as many as 40 different companies manufacturing bedroom furniture in that area. Those Swedish craftsman named their company the "Swedish Furniture Manufacturing Corporation". They renamed that company in 1887 the "Atlas Furniture Company" which became widely regarded as the highest quality bedroom furniture manufacturer in the United States from 1890 to 1920.
We estimate this dresser was made sometime around 1905. It still has its original crystal knobs and matching mirror latches. Notice the carved claw feet and matching footed pillars holding the mirror. The wood is mahogony with birdseye maple interiors. The top drawers are recessed and bowed.
This dresser is approximately 48 inches wide, 23 inches deep, 35.5 inches high to the top of the dresser surface and 73 inches high to the top of the mirror. Our price is for in store pick up or for free local delivery. Please email or phone for an out of state delivery quote.

This hanging pie safe is much larger than most in that it has three shelves and two doors. Most only have two shelves and one door. Also, this safe is screened on all four sides while most are only screened on two or three sides. We feel it dates from the late 19th century to the turn-of-the-century.
The pie safe was screened to allow for plenty of ventalition in cooling pies as well as to protect from flys and other insects. A hanging pie safe also helped to protect from rodents and small children.
This pie safe is in very good and original condition. It is approximately 29.5 inches wide, 25.5 inches deep and 36 inches high. Our price is for instore pickup or free local delivery. Please email or phone with your zip code for a out of state delivery quote.
$465.00SOLD |
This is a late 19th century walnut fireplace mantel. It is solid and in very good condition. It does stand on its own and it could also be afixed to the wall. It would be very easy to add a shelf to the top of the mantel. It could be a large rough piece of wood, a piece of slate or a slab of marble. The shelf could simply sit on top of the mantel and not even have to be afixed.
The mantel is approximately 57 inches wide, 11 inches deep and 52.5 inches high. Our price is for in store pick up or free local delivery. Please email or phone for a delivery quote.

We found this trunk with two complete copies of the New York Times Mid-Week Pictorials from 1917 & 1918. This black and white magazine reporting on WW1 campaigns came out weekly on Wednesdays or Thursdays. Those magazines obviously belonged to the trunk's original owner so I thought they should stay with the trunk. I choose interesting scenes and laminated them inside the trunk as part of the trunk's full restoration efforts. I thought this to be a unique idea but then two different people who have seen the restored trunk have told me that it was a popular thing for dough boys (WW1 GIs) to do. They would cut out specific scenes from the Times Mid Week Magazine that they either personally experienced or were familar with and paste those images inside their trunks or lockers. So much for my original idea.
This trunk is from the WW1 era and has been fully and beautifully restored. It is approximately 37 inches wide, 20 inches deep and 13 inches high. The price is for store pick up only but local delivery and or shipment out of state is available so please call or email for quote.

This Vermont Tiger Maple Blanket Chest recently came out of a Brandon, Vermont house. The top two drawers are not drawers at all, but they do still have all their original matching hardware. There is an age crack in the center but it has stabalized and is not otherwise an issue. It was originally one board. The top lifts and the lock still has its key but is not working. The botttom two drawers have hand made dovetails in front and in back as well as their original hardware. While the piece does have some contemporay repairs it is definitely old as can be verified by the large, unique and hand carved dovetails which surround the base and are hidden under the skirt. It also still has many of the original large rose head nails that hold the back boards to the frame. We estimate the piece to have been made in the Vermont area and sometime in the late 18th to the early 19 century.
This chest is approximately 41.5 inches wide, 40.75 inches high and 19.5 inches deep. Our price is for in store pickup or free local delivery. Please call or email for an out of state delivery quote.

This hump topped immigrant trunk dates to around the turn-of-the-century. We used the sheet music (circa. 1900 thru WW1) we found inside the trunk to line the interior. This trunk at one time belonged to a M.L. Phillips of Pittsford, Vermont as stated on an attached tag. The top was humped so as to assure it rode on the top of the other trunks and then it was the last one in and therefore the first one out.
The price is for store pick up only but local delivery and out of state freight is available so please email or phone for quote.

This door is at least 150 years old and probably more than 200 years old. We believe it to have been to a Buddhist Temple. The wood is very heavy and quite dense. It still shows two layers of very old paint and the old metal has a wonderful patina. We believe the stained glass to be replacement glass and there are some replacement screws. The Dutch door feature allows for plenty of creative variation in its new life. The door is approximately eight (8) foot tall at the peak, 38.75 inches wide when closed and 3.75 inches thick.
Delivery may be available to the North Eastern Seaboard or freight pick up to anywhere is available. Please call for a quote.

All during the late 19th century and into the early 20th century (1870-1920) the best constructed buggies and carriages were known to be made in Indiana and mostly by the hardworking and highly skilled woodworkers within the Amish communities. Then along came the automobile which pretty much obsoleted the horse and buggy markets by the 1920s.
Many, if not all, of those skilled woodworkers turned their talents towards the emerging kitchen furniture industry and therein was born the Hoosier kitchen cabinet, almost exclusively made in Indiana. The most popular brands were Sellers, Hoosier and Nappanee but there were several other lesser known brand names as well.
The "Hoosier" is generally two major pieces, a bottom cabinet with a top cupboard over a pull out enameled work counter. It originally, and almost always, included a flour bin in the upper left corner of the cupboard but often this is now missing with the space being converted to more storage. There were many, many variations.
With all the returning GIs from WW2, and the emerging baby boomer generation, many new housing tracts across America were developed and guess what the rage was in new kitchen designs during this late 1940s and early 1950s era? Yep, you guessed it, built-in cabinets. These built in cabinets destroyed the demand for Hoosiers.
Well what do you think those skilled woodworkers and cabinet makers turned to next? Do you think it is a mere coincidence that today Indiana is the recreational vehicle (RVs) capital of the United States?
This Seller's kitchen cabinet is the real deal and dates to the 1930s-40s eras. The top is held in place by two screws on each side and then easily lifts off. The enameled counter pulls out and is in very good condition with only a few nicks and very little enamel loss. The original etched glass panels are long gone and replaced with clear glass. It did originally have a tin flour bin but that too has been replaced with additional shelves and more storage. The bottom right drawer is all tin lined and was either a bread drawer or potato drawer. There is a pull out wire tray inside the bottom left cabinet doors. There are two replacement latches on the top cupboard and a replacement Seller's name plate.
The bottom cabinet is approximately 48 inches wide, 34 inches high, 28 inches deep and the work counter pulls out to 36 inches while the top cupboard is 47 inches wide, 11.5 inches deep and 47 inches high.
The bottom cabinet is on its original working casters.

We found this large mahogony sideboard in the dinning room of a 160 year old Brandon, Vermont farmhouse. It was sitting on a wooden floor and the indents on the floor were so deep we feel it was placed there when new in 1912 and not moved until we took it out of that room. We believe it was made in 1912 because we found that date on the bottom of one of the drawers.
We completely resealed and refinished the sideboard but left the little mouse hole on the right side of the large center drawer. We feel the mouse hole adds character and retains the charm and memory of that old farmhouse.
The piece is 66 inches long, 23 inches deep, 39 inches high to the top of the serving surface and 47 inches high to the top of the back of the backsplash. We failed to do a good job of dusting prior to taking the photos and that is apparent in some of the photos. Therefore, we will rewax (we use the Howard's colored paste wax) and buff all surfaces to a mild luster prior to delivery.
There is free delivery within Vermont and out of state freight service is available so call or email for a quote?
$750.00SOLD |
This very unique primitive came out of a local central Vermont 18th century barn. It is a feeder trough and is decorated with its original red wash paint. We believe it is from the late 19th century. It would make a great coffee table with a piece of plate glass covering the top or perhaps serve as a firewood holder by the fireplace? The wood used is incredibly thick at more than 2 inches and the trough may even hold water. It is approximately 16 inches high, 25 inches wide, 170.5 inches long at handle to handle and 51 inches long at trough portion only.
The price below is for pick up only but local delivery and out of state freight shipment is available so please call for a quote.

Do you know any prolific sinners? If so, this is the perfect item, a portable confessional to drag along wherever one goes. It most likely was designed to be portable so the church could eaisly put it away and then only bring it out for busy seasons. Apparently, this one was used by a young priest since it has the absolution typed in english and in latin taped inside the priest's booth so that he only had to read it and not memorize it. One side opens out and a kneeler comes down and the other side opens up for the priest to use with any available chair while listening to the confessions.
Talk about interesting repurposing opportunities, how about in a Manhattan apartment as a portable bar with glasses on one side and the bottles on the other. What other uses can you think of?
This confessional is made of oak and is approximately 62.75 inches high, 14.75 inches deep and 30 inches wide. The price is for store pick up only but local delivery and out of state freight is available so please call or email for a quote.

What a wonderful and unusual piece of furniture. We feel it dates to the last quarter of the 19th century and features swans holding the center mirror, mahogony burl panels, carved claw feet and twisted columns on each side. It is a two over four and has vintage glass knobs but the two on the bottom shelf are close but not a perfect match to the others. They may have been added or replaced in the 19th century. The top drawer does not have pulls and never did. We think it may have been a somewhat hidden drawer to distract burglars.
The dresser is approximately 43.5 inches wide, 19.5 inches deep and 38 inches high to top of dresser. Our price is for in store pick up or free local delivery. Please call or email for an out of state delivery quote.

While we do not have any additional paperwork or other validation of this 3 pc set being salesman's samples we came to that conclusion via process of elimination. The pieces are two large to be toy or dollhouse furniture and too small to be children's furniture. That leaves either doll furniture or salesman's samples. We lean toward the salesman's samples because they really are quite fundamental and basic in design and doll furniture is generally a bit more formal.
We think these were hand made by a craftsman who traveled around a particular market during the mid to late 19th century taking orders and then returning to his shop to build the pieces for which he sold. He probably had a variety of materials and colors for the homemaker to choose to match to her home. The pieces are pretty basic and were probably very affordable in rural communities.
There is a table, a rocking chair and a matching easy chair. The rocking chair is about 15.5 inches high to the top of the back of the chair, 11 inches wide and 15 inches deep. The table is 14 inches long, 8.5 inches deep and 13.5 inches high. The easy chair is 13.75 inches high to the top of the back, 11 inches wide and 9 inches deep.
Your are buing all three pieces for one price. They can be packed and shipped via parcel post or UPS so please email or call with your zip code for a quote.
$275.00SOLD |
This circa. 1880s sideboard is constucted out of quarter sawn oak commonly referred to as tiger oak because its' beautifully exposed grain resembles tiger stripes. Most furniture used only tiger oak veneers while all the exposed wood on this sideboard is solid oak and not veneer and also why this piece is so very stable and heavy. The quarter sawn process was generally eliminated in the 1920s due to the waste factor when it could loose up to half the lumber.
This piece also features its' original heavy and twisted brass hardware, raised panel sides and an all original finish. It measures approximately 54.5 inches wide, 24.5 inches deep and 36 inches high.
Our price is for in-store pick up or free local delivery but please email or call for an out of state delivery quote.
$825.00SOLD |
This is a gentleman's oak dresser box to sit on his dresser or night stand and to keep safe overnight his keys, watches, jewlery, pocket change, wallet and other small valuables. Its' ornament is a 19th century blacksmith made trammel used by early trappers in the Adirondacks to anchor their smaller traps. We wired the trammel to the box so as not to damage it and simply cutting the wire will release the trammel unharmed.
The box is approximately 13 inches wide, 8 inches deep and 4 inches high and the harpoon head is approximatley 9 inches high. There is free shipping & insurance anywhere within the USA via US Parcel Post and an additional $30 anywhere outside of the USA via US Priority International Mail.

This Victorian, Eastlake platform rocking chair was made by Stein & Schmidt of Cincinnati, Ohio and is dated 1880 while the original patent was issued a few years earlier in 1875. When we recently fully restored and reupholstered it, we discovered a label by the firm who had reupolstered it for the first time in 1950. So now it should be ready to serve another 60 years or so before it may need to be reupholstered again. Can you think of any other furniture item that can serve so long and will again be worthy of restoration in the future? It is approximately 22 inches wide, 29 inches deep and about 35 inches high.
Our price is for store pick up only but local delivery and out of state freight service is available so please email or call for a quote.

We recently found this little step down Windsor in a barn in Whiting, Vermont. It has a solid plank seat and bamboo turned legs & stretchers. It is rod backed and includes the classical step down head rest. It has a steel reinforcement on each side of the top head rest which were probably added sometime during the 19th century. It is smallish and might have been a youth chair or a Windsor Slipper. A slipper chair was smaller and close to the ground and was used by the lady of house when she "slipped" on her shoes and socks. This little rocker shows just the right amount of wear for a 200 year old Windsor chair.

This recently acquired pair of Vermont Dry Sink Farm tables came out of Fair Haven, Vermont. We believe they date to the last quarter of the 19th century mostly due to the hand forged square nails used in their construction. They spent all their life, up to now, on a farm in Fair Haven and were used in cream separation and in making Vermont maple syrup. The sink inserts are metal and appear to be in great shape without any cracks, tears or punctures. The wood is all hard wood and probably oak. One table is divided into two sinks while the other is one large sink. Each table is approximately 68 inches long, 26 inches wide, 31 inches high from the floor to the top of the sink and each sink is about 7 inches deep.
You are purchasing the pair but we would sell each table separately at $850 each. Local delivery and out of state shipping is available so please call or email for a quote.

We recently found this work table in the workshop of a 19th century barn in Whiting, Vermont. We estimate it to be about 100 years old but feel the lumber is probably older than the table. If you look closely on both sides you can see the water wheel marks that were made when the lumber was originally sawn and made by a water saw mill. We think the lumber is probably from the 1870s and was just sitting around the barn until used to make this work table.
We thoroughly cleaned and waxed it and now it is ready to serve for another 100 years. It stands approximatley 35 inches high, is about 19 inches deep and 41.5 inches long. How would this look as a server in your country kitchen?

These beer garden tables are also called festival tables. Each set consists of the table and two benches. Each of the three pieces folds to about 3 inches in height and the tables and the benches are approximately 84 inches long while the table is about 20 inches wide and the benches are about 10 inches wide. They are from Germany and each set has seen anywhere from 20 to 50 Octoberfests. The one we pictured is the oldest with the most wear. The other two are a little newer and not as distressed and are more yellow in color than the one in the photo. They are very stong and each has been known to hold 8 or more dancing adult Germans while they sang Octoberfest songs and drank huge amounts of beer.
The folding locking devices work well on all the sets and they actually lock in place when folded open or closed.
